Accessibility is a key focus of the 40th Avenue NE Bridge replacement project. The design team is currently considering interim accessibility improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists, construction accessibility, and long term accessibility improvements for all users.

Interim Accessibility Improvements (pre-construction)

  • Summer – Reconfiguring lane alignment for smoother transitions
  • Fall – Bridge repairs to allow pedestrian and bicycle access

Construction Accessibility Considerations (during construction)

  • Continued access for vehicles, bicyclists and boaters during construction
  • Minimal access impacts to pedestrians during construction

Long-term Accessibility Improvements and Considerations (new bridge)

  • Raising the bridge
  • Lengthening the bridge spans
  • Providing dedicated bicycle lanes
  • Providing wider sidewalks
  • Maintaining access to adjacent driveways
